Overboard Edition (pun intended)

So I kinda wanted to go a little crazy here and do all things nautical.
I LOVE those sail bags they are super cool and bring me back to my sailing days when you had to fold the sail (there is a proper technique ya know!)

So I kinda like all of these elements together though.  What do you think?

Felis Concolor

Since Apple just rolled out it's new OS X Mountain Lion I thought now would be a perfect time to do a post on mountain lions.  Side note I want to say that I LOVE that Apple names it's OS after cats, my OS is so old I have house cat, an upgrade is in order.

This little guy is adorable right?  He doesn't even have his teeth yet and is totally snuggle worthy!  Well this snugly little guy grows up to be...

So our dear friend the mountain lion or as some know it as a puma, cougar, or catamount.  Now this is a big kitty weighing about 130lbs, and judging from the picture above a nasty bite!

Size relative to a 6-ft (2-m) man:
Illustration: Mountain lion compared with adult man

I have this weird fascination/terror for these animals.  Ever since there were these rampant attacked out in CA on hikers and bikers a few years ago that made the news I secretly fear I'm going to be attacked by one.  Can you imagine this huge creature leaping on you!  I have also see 2 attack stories on "I survived' on A&E and I was GLUED to the television.  So according to the "I Survived" story and from what I see in my domestic cats is that cats big or small aren't like some other animals where you can scare them away or fight them off easily.  The more you fight the more pissed off they get, try it sometime, preferably with the smaller version for your own safety :)

I think these cats scare me so much because out of all of the animals in the world this is one that I would be most likely to get eaten by.  I don't think I'm that picky about how I die but I don't think I want to get eaten.  I know that's kinda crazy esp since we don't even have mountain lions here in MA not to mention I live in the city and apparently I'm more likely to get attacked by a shark swimming in Truro, MA.  However you have to go into the water to get attacked I don't surf or swim by seals also sharks attacks are a result of mistaken identity, they don't want to eat us.  A mountain lion on the other hand is intentionally stalking and attacking you with the full purpose to eat you for dinner!!

So I guess when I visit my friend out in sunny CA I should keep a knife and pepper spray handy even if I'm on the busy streets, you NEVER know!!!

Quote of the Day

"I want to get more comfortable being uncomfortable. I want to get more confident being uncertain. I don't want to shrink back just because something isn't easy. I want to push back, and make more room in the area between I can't and I can. Maybe that spot is called I will."

GPAs - do they REALLY matter after all these years?

Girl-studying_01

GPAs don't really matter especially after all this time right?!

Well that's what I always thought but I was very wrong, it's been 10 years after I graduated college and apparently it DOES matter.  I won't mention the company that is the elitist here but it kinda ticked me off a little that they wouldn't even interview me because I didn't meet this GPA requirement.

So by no means was I close to the magna cum laude nor the summa cum laude ranks for that matter however my GPA was not terrible!!

So this begs the question; are all GPAs created equal?  Surely a 3.0 GPA from Harvard and 3.0 from say Cape Cod Community College (also know affectionately as the 4 C's) is not equal!  Not that I went to Harvard but I went to a decent/solid/good school.  Had I gone to a lesser school taken easier classes I'm sure I could have gotten close to a 4.0.  Instead I went to a business school and was required to take accounting, finance, law, IT etc. ALL of which hurt my GPA because if you don't remember from this post I am NOT anything close to an accountant/tax person nor do I care enough about it.  I could go on and on about that and how I had the meanest hardest accounting professor at what was once known as an accounting school oh and that class was 8:30AM on W/F!  I digress...

My other point is what about your career accomplishments - you could have gone to Harvard, Yale,  pick your Ivy League, gotten a 4.0 and not accomplished much of anything - okay so the chances are if you DID do that I doubt you are a slob however it could happen.

My point is there is so much more to a person than their GPA so how can you disqualify someone off of this one data point where there are too many other variables to consider?

Their loss.

Russian Doll Chic Edition

Okay so I saw this Russian Doll or Matryoshka clutch and fell in love! So I wanted to create an outfit around it.  I then found this cuff and thought it might be too much Russian Doll for one outfit...but I thought it was too fun to pass up!  Carry the clutch in one hand and the cuff on your other wrist!

I seriously want that clutch BIG time however it's pretty pricey!

Places I would rather be: Bora Bora

My friend is on her honeymoon there now so jealous!
This place is just beautiful!  I do always get a little freaked out when you are in the middle of the ocean however I think I would get over it :o)

Who says Beige is Boring Edition

Okay so we all know I'm not afraid of color but sometimes beige can be good!
With this mix of patterns and textures I think beige is anything but boring!
Add a pop of color on the nails to make them really stand out.

Pinocchio Nose Necklace

Well that's what what we called these maple seed pods growing up.  I love this necklace because the story Monique tells hits a cord with me and to this day when I see those little pod spiraling down it reminds me of a kid walking up my dead end sleepy street to the bus stop pausing as I pick one up and place it on my nose then wishing I hadn't because it leaves a stickiness behind!

ARTIST / DESIGNER: Monique Leon

Monique says: There are some things that many of us share in memory, one of those has been watching these seed pods spiral out of the sky. They are like little fairy wings that flutter and find themselves on the noses of youthful spirits. Behind their lovely shimmery sheen is the secret they hold of the POTENTIAL that resides in a seed pod, just waiting to become a tree.

The origin of this actual size seed pod is from a delightful Japanese Maple that glows bright orange in the autumn.
